The Universe began
Thirteen point seven billion years ago

And this magnetic field
Then seeded a galactic dynamo
Protons, electrons, neutrons before long
All trying to learn the elemental song

Give in to the embrace of gravity
Collapsing into stars and moons and songs.
Like rock stood in a stream

Earth's Magnetic Field

|
Earth's magnetic field is generated deep within the core of the planet.
This is a restless place with vigorous motions of liquid metal, and these motions of liquid metal generate electrical currents which form earth's magnetic field. It acts as a shield which deflects the solar wind, charged particles which stream away from the sun and it deflects them around the earth.
The sun is giving off its stream of highly charged particles all the time, it interacts with our atmosphere and when it does we get the Northen Lights, what happens is these charged particles, a lot of them are deflected but some get funelled down around the poles where the magnetic field comes in and is much stronger. They come in, they collide with molecules of oxygen and nitrogen. The energy produced in these collisions are what provides the luminous glow that we call the aurora... but these charged particles also create a natural radio signal, very low frequency receivers can turn these signals into sound... this is the sound of the aurora here on earth.
